History

To get to know Powermate, we’ll provide you with the information to guide you through the company’s founding, breakthroughs, early years, and how it looks today.

Founding and Milestones

Powermate is an industry-leading brand that has been filling the needs of professionals and residents for generators, compressors, and other outdoor power equipment. Its headquarters was based in South Burlington, Vermont. Early on, Powermate combined its efforts with Pramac to continue building its generator line. Pramac is an Italian-based company. However, in 2014, Generac, another leading brand in the same industry, acquired the Powermate brand. It was then that it also took over the equipment and working capital from Pramac.

At this time, Generac also assumed a licensing agreement for Porter Cable and DeWalt brands. They then renamed the entity Powermate America LLC. After Powermate was acquired by Generac Power Systems, it moved its headquarters to Marietta, Georgia, where it still resides. As a whole, the new company has approximately 200 employees that work for it in all areas.

In 2021, Generac Power Systems announced that it was going to release a new re-imagined lineup of Powermate generators and products. During this transition, Generac has made the Powermate generators easier to use with different features while still maintaining the integrity of the brand’s reputation. Currently, it provides inverter generators and open-frame generators that feature Powermate OHV engines and Generac OHV engines.

Production and Manufacturing

Products

Over the years, Powermate has become a strong contender for being one of the top manufacturers of portable generators. However, it manufactures other products, like pressure washers and wood chippers. On some of its models, the company does outsource some of the parts for its generators. For instance, some of its portable generators are powered by Generac OHV engines. The company provides an array of features and choices for its models. For instance, it has manual-start generators and electric-start generators, giving their customers options. Most of its generators are gasoline-powered, but some of its products do have different fuel options that can be considered.

Lower Price Range Powermate 2,000W Portable Generator

The company offers generators with different wattage specifications to be sure to provide customers with a variety to suit their power needs. It manufactures low-range and high-range generators, as well, that can include different safety features, like CO sensors.

Manufacturing

When it comes to manufacturing, the company believes in providing quality work through the use of innovative technologies and high-quality materials. It has some manufacturing plants in the United States, but its generators are made in Italy by Pramac, a European brand. Part of the company’s vision is to produce quality generators and products that help transform the human experience by providing them with power. Once Powermate was acquired by Generac Power Systems, the new company moved the manufacturing facilities to some of its own from Pramac.

Key Facts

Historically, Powermate has a standing reputation as being one of the best portable generator manufacturers in the industry. When purchasing a generator, the first question that you ask yourself is, “Why buy a generator?” The answer is simple: to provide you with backup power and comfort. The company has been granted various patents for its models, and it is one of the few internationally known. Recently, it has paired up with Generac, and some of its latest generators are powered by Generac OHV engines, which gives them more power. However, over the years, Powermate has increased its efforts to ensure that they provide a reliable option for customers while still branching out to new innovative forms of power.

Warranty Information

In most circumstances, all products that are manufactured by the company come with a three-year warranty that starts from its original shipping date. There are some occasions where some materials might not be covered under your Powermate generator warranty, but in these instances, it will be stated in the information that will arrive with your product. When a product is under warranty, the company can choose to uphold the warranty in one of three ways: issue a refund, replace the product, or repair it. The warranty is only valid if the damage occurs from shipping or damage not occurring from normal wear and tear. It is the responsibility of the customer to replace any products that fall under normal wear and tear circumstances.

If you need to claim the warranty on your generator, you will need to call Powermate’s customer service to see if the product is covered under the warranty agreement. If the representative feels it is, they will provide you with a “Return Authorization” from the representative, which means you can then go through the process of returning the product to the company. If the company decides to provide you with a refund for the product, the refund will also include the original shipping charges.

If you have lost the initial information on your generator’s warranty, you can download a copy of the warranty with this link to ensure you follow the proper procedure for upholding the warranty on your end. One step that you should be sure to take when purchasing a generator from the company is to register your product on the website. This will help move along the warranty process if you ever have to call in the warranty for any reason.

It is important to note that generators that come with a Generac OHV engine might also have a second warranty that relates directly to the engine to cover it. These warranties are generally for two years, and they are separate from the three-year warranty that is discussed above. If the engine does have this warranty, it will have the information that is sent with the product. It is important to check and make sure that you register this warranty, as well, because it is separate from the initial warranty that is provided covering the overall generator.
